You can crochet a decorative edge on the pant legs or
embellish them with knitted appliqués after you are finished.
I used a variation of Nicky Epstein’s “leaves” page 94 of “Knitting Over The Edge” for the bottom of the pants pictured here then sewed them on, added a running stitch for vines and a fewFrench knots for the berries. Be creative, the basic pattern is easy, the pants can be your pallet for the little extras that you choose to add.

Top down, easily knitted baby pants will fit babies ranging from 3 to 24 months. Use any yarn from bulky to worsted, the pattern is written for three sizes in three different gauges: 3, 4, & 5 stitches to the inch.
To Make the Baby Pants You Need:
an afternoon
100 to 200 grams of yarn, depending on the size you choose.
16 inch circular needles that are the appropriate size for your yarn and knitting style. Read your yarn label suggestion for needle size, knit a swatch, do the math and see if you are getting the suggested gauge, if not go up or down a needle size.
I used size 6 for 5 st/in, size 8 for 4 st/in, size 9 for 3 st/in.
