Simply Knitted Baby Skirt
This is a great beginner project for new knitters. Just follow the directions, step by step, and you will have a wonderful skirt for your little folks to wear.
Knitted from the top down! You will learn a new and simple technique that creates a “tube” that an elastic waistband (or I-cord) will be pulled through and fastened off for a perfect tummy fit. The knitted baby skirt will fit babies ranging from 3 months to 3 years old.
You can knit this in a solid color or with a Fair Isle design!
All you will need:
—an afternoon, well maybe a couple of them
—Gauge is 5 stitches per inch, approx 6 rows per inch (the rows per inch are not a big deal, just measure final length)
— Yarn: 90 to 140 grams of Southern Bales main/1 color yarn
The sizes below are averages, the length is to above the knee.
Size 1 (3-12 mos): 16” waist, 6.5” long, 3.2 oz/ 90 g/ 200 yd
Size 2 (1-2 yrs): 18” waist, 7.5” long, 4 oz/ 113 g/ 248 yd
Size 3 (2-3 yrs): 20” Waist, 7.75” long, 4.8 oz/134 g/ 298 yd
Fair Isle (all sizes): 6-1 oz baby cakes of Southern Bales in different colors
—Needles: Size 5 / 16” circular needles and Size 6 / 32”
—Elastic band for the waist band and a large sewing needle
